“Into The F World” moves to Singapore…and takes a break

Hi everyone!

The new year just started and when doing my “2013 in review”, I realised that I have been skirting around this issue a while, so here I am. As some of you might have suspected from the prolonged silence, I am taking a break from blogging on “Into The F World”. Let’s call it, as it’s the fashion right now, a “blogging sabbatical”.

Technically speaking, a sabbatical would imply a return to normal activity at a later point, but at the moment I am not sure this will be the case. My move to Singapore and the new job have impacted my lifestyle and priorities quite a bit; it would be easy to say “I don’t have time” for blogging, but I am a strong believer in the fact that you have time for what you make time for and what is important to you so this excuse does not stand.


Reality is, in the lead up to the move to Asia, I felt myself , perhaps inevitably, growing more indifferent to the London food scene which had largely become the main focus of this blog; I started to tweet more, interact less with other bloggers, foodie and restaurateurs – and when I did, it was with disastrous results, including a recent nasty Twitter row with a chef who resented me “headbutting into a conversation” to say that my meal at his restaurant, a good six months ago, had not been fully to my liking. The episode was risible per se, but it pushed me to consider whether do I really care trying to be involved with the food scene of a country and city where I don’t live anymore. A ton of new restaurant openings is London every month mean that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with them, with the events and the gossip. Nor am I interested in starting the same doing restaurant reviews in Singapore.

So, am I quitting blogging for good? Not really. I still enjoy writing for an audience, albeit small, and exchanging views with readers and followers. I still love food, although not necessarily want to deal with the establishment serving it. The posts I enjoyed more over the last few onths had been the ones related to travel, and recipes, and I plan to do more of those - I just need to find the a creative outlet which reflects my new interests and my new location as well.

Where to find me in the meantime? On Twitter of course.  Blog-wise, there is a half- baked idea called Orientespresso (talking all things food, travel and relationships between East and West- you can have a sneak peek and let me know what you think), and of course my other project LoveAbruzzo, dedicated to the Italian region which was recently touted by the Guardian as “Italy next foodie destination”. Hope to see you there sometimes.

Thanks to everyone who ever read this blog and took time to react, whether positively or negatively. I have truly learnt a lot and met some great people through it  – which was my objective when I found myself alone in London in the spring of 2012.

Wishing you a great 2014, may it bring you what you desire…not all of it, just enough to keep you happy..and hungry! ;)

  1. It’s sad to see Into The F World take a break…I have always enjoyed reading your reviews of London restaurants! I hope you and your blog will be back in London soon! Until then…all the best with your other projects and wish you the greatest time in Singapore!
